Plymouth Citybus to take over key North Cornwall bus route

Bus services between Bude, Launceston, Stoke Climsland and Plymouth are being taken over by operator Plymouth Citybus.

The 576 route is currently operated by Western Greyhound, but local MP Dan Rogerson has received dozens of complaints about the reliability of the service and others that are run by Western Greyhound in North Cornwall.

The new operator will stick to the route’s current timetable and fares.

As well as the 576 route, Plymouth Citybus will also take over several other services in the Liskeard and South East Cornwall area.

Western Greyhound was recently put the company up for sale and are said to be in discussions about the rest of their services across Cornwall.

Commenting, Dan said, “It is reassuring that Plymouth Citybus has stepped in to take over the 576 service from Bude to Plymouth via Launceston and Stoke Climsland. I know that many people rely on the route to get to work, school, to the shops or for medical appointments.

“Unfortunately too many people have been let down recently by buses along this route not turning up. Only last week I heard from a Launceston business who were furious that one of their employees had been left stranded in the dark without any help to get back to Plymouth after a bus broke down.

“I hope that this news means we will see improvements to the service, and that a solution can be found for other routes across North Cornwall to make sure that we have local bus services that people can rely on.”
