Fighting for a fair deal for Cornwall

Fighting for a fair deal for Cornwall

As Member of Parliament for North Cornwall, I am proud to represent the community I grew up in. I still live here, and I’m now raising my own family in Bodmin, with my wife, Heidi.

This website allows people to observe my work both in Parliament and in all the different parts of North Cornwall. The constituency has seventy parishes and I try to get to all of them regularly, to meet residents, and to listen to their concerns, so I can raise the issues that matter to people here when I speak up for us in Westminster.

Representing the people of North Cornwall in Parliament is an honour and contact with my constituents is key. On this site you will find details of how to contact me in person, by email or by post. Please contact me if there are any issues that you would like me to pursue on your behalf.

Dan Rogerson welcomes £103,000 boost for energy saving project

Dan Rogerson welcomes £103,000 boost for energy saving project
A successful funding bid for an energy saving project for St Gennys parish in North Cornwall has been welcomed by local Liberal Democrat MP Dan Rogerson.
Liberal Democrat Energy and Climate Change Secretary, Chris Huhne, announced on Monday that the St Gennys project will be receiving £103,000 from the Coalition Government as part of the new Local Energy Assessment Fund (LEAF).
The coastal community, which includes the Trelay eco-village community, will assess and co-ordinate information about energy use in the parish to empower people towards low carbon energy solutions. The bid for funding was supported by Mr Rogerson and plans include encouraging householders to apply for energy saving technologies, as well as to develop a training and education centre for low carbon solutions at Trelay.
It is hoped that the project, website and visitors exhibition will also have an impact on the wider local area, as far as Bude, Launceston, Wadebridge and Bodmin.
The St Gennys project is one 80 successful local energy projects to win funding from the first round of the Government’s scheme, and is one of the largest grants that has been made so far.
Other winning bids include opening show homes to demonstrate solid wall insulation to the public, schemes to check the energy efficiency of homes and invest in renewable energy, and events to promote the uptake of energy efficiency in local communities.
Lib Dem MP for the area, Dan Rogerson, said:
“At a time when people are worried about rising energy bills, this funding is a welcome boost to help people save energy and keep costs down.
“This project will show people that going green is realistic, practical and will help them save money in ways that work for our area.
“Local communities will be put at the heart of the UK’s effort to rise to the enormous challenge to get clean and cheap energy on our efforts to halt climate change and to end our reliance on erratic market of imported oil and gas.”
Commenting further, Chris Huhne said:
“We face a gigantic challenge in the coming years to keep the lights on and energy bills down. This means nurturing cleaner, more secure, homegrown energy sources here in the UK so we are not so dependent on imported gas, and boosting the energy efficiency of our homes and businesses to cut out waste.
“Local communities, with their energy, drive and innovation, are going to be at the heart of this effort, and I hope that this funding acts as a booster rocket to the winning projects.”
