North Cornwall MP votes against tuition fee increase

North Cornwall’s MP, Dan Rogerson today voted against a rise in tuition fees.

Commenting he said,

“I have huge respect for Vince Cable as Business Secretary and I think there are many parts of this package which are much better than Labour’s tuition fee system.  The threshold for beginning repayments is higher, part time students will get access to the scheme and those who earn more will pay more. However, I remain concerned about the Government’s contribution to tuition and therefore cannot support this proposal in its entirety.

“I respect the decisions that my colleagues have come to on the proposal. I also remain committed to supporting the coalition Government in its efforts to deal with the financial blackhole left by the last Government and to deliver a fairer Britain. Labour have no serious alternative to these proposals and my vote on this issue is in no way an indication of my support for anything they have proposed on tuition fees now or in the past.”
