MP praises emergency services’ quick response after flash flooding

North Cornwall’s MP, Dan Rogerson has praised the emergency services today after Cornwall was battered overnight by heavy rains causing flash floods all over Cornwall.

Three inches of rain fell in the early hours of this morning and the Met Office and the Environment Agency issued severe weather warnings as up to 50mm of rain was predicted to cause even further flooding.  In areas all over Cornwall, people have been trapped in their homes and cars with helicopters deployed to rescue several of those trapped.

Commenting he said,

“The emergency services, local authority and Environment Agency  are working hard to secure transport routes, protect property and to help people who have been affected by this flooding which has been described as ‘a major incident’ and has hit areas all over Mid and North Cornwall.

“Thankfully, so far, no casualties have been reported, but my thoughts are with those whose property has been damaged and we all hope and pray that prompt action will normalise the situation as soon as possible.”
