MP welcomes farming charity ‘Gateway’ grants

North Cornwall’s MP, Dan Rogerson, has welcomed ‘vital support’ for Cornish farmers, offered by the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI).

Mr Rogerson met with the charity at the Royal Cornwall Show last week, to hear all about the ‘Gateway’ project, which is aimed at allowing farmers and farm workers to unlock their potential by providing funding for training and certification of skills which can be used to generate extra funds to help keep low-income farms going.

The project allows farm workers to convert their knowledge into skills which will earn them income off-farm.  For example, farmers can use their proficiency with farm machinery to train for an HGV licence, to do other work.

Commenting, Dan Rogerson said:

“It’s great news that the RABI have brought their excellent Gateway project to Cornwall.

“Since so many farmers are facing tough times, and a squeeze on their income, this support could be vital.

“I would urge anyone who feels they may be able to benefit from the scheme to contact the RABI to see if they can get help.”
