Progress won for St Eval residents
North Cornwall’s MP, Dan Rogerson, this week took St Eval residents Barbara and Denis Hough to see Defence Minister Kevan Jones about the future of St Eval.
331 Ministry of Defence houses were sold by the last Conservative Government to Annington Homes, which has left many of them empty after they ceased to be used by the military.
Annington now wants rid of the properties but they are made of solid concrete and cannot be sold on the open market, since no mortgage lender will take them on. Liberal Democrat councillor Jeremy Rowe has worked with North Cornwall MP Dan Rogerson to try and secure a regeneration scheme for the village.
Commenting, Mr Rogerson said:
“St Eval residents have waited far too long for progress to be made with a full-scale regeneration project.
“Kevan Jones has now agreed to get MoD officials to contact Cornwall Council. They must finally agree a solution that will protect local services.
“I will now be seeking to meet with relevant Council officers – along with my colleague, Jeremy Rowe, to see if we can get things moving.”
Cornwall Councillor Jeremy Rowe, added:
“I’m extremely grateful to Dan for getting the minister to sit down and listen to the unique problems St Eval faces.
“We need to all work together to ensure that local community facilities are protected and that residents are not forgotten by the government and the Council”.
