John Betjeman Centre energy scheme unveiled

Dan Rogerson (r) switches on the new photovoltaic panels with Centre Chairman, George Harris (l)
Local MP, Dan Rogerson, unveiled and switched on new photovoltaic panels at the John Betjeman Centre, Wadebridge, this week.

Chairman George Harris, applied for grant funding for the project, so that the centre could generate its own electricity, and even feed some back in to the national grid.

Mr Rogerson supported the bid, and has campaigned in Parliament for the “Feed-In Tariff” (FIT), which will be introduced in April.  FIT allows householders and businesses to recover some of the costs involved in setting up renewable energy sources – like solar or wind – with refunds on any electricity they produce and then feed back in to the system.

Commenting, Dan Rogerson said:

“George Harris has worked incredibly hard with the other volunteers at the centre to get this project off the ground.  It’s great to see that all their efforts have paid off.

“The Feed-In Tariff, which I campaigned with Liberal Democrat colleagues to see brought into law, will make schemes like this one more affordable to other householders and organisations.

“It could see a lot more ‘microgeneration’, and a reduction in our reliance on large-scale generation – whether through renewable or traditional sources.

“Many more people will be able to generate their own energy in this way, as part of our efforts to tackle climate change.”
