Cardinham Homes ‘set an example’ – MP

North Cornwall’s MP has commended an estate of new homes in Poundstock Close, Cardinham, for their high quality, their energy efficiency and their affordability.

The local Liberal Democrat MP has campaigned against the growth of second homes, and in favour of more affordable housing for local people.

Commenting on the Cardinham development, he said:

“These new properties will be a comfortable, affordable home to families who have needed them for too long. They are built to high energy efficiency standards, so should be reasonably cheap to heat too.

“After decades of untrammeled growth in the second home market, and the relentless sell-off of social housing under the last Conservative government, too many local people find themselves unable to afford to stay in Cornwall. All too often, better jobs and cheaper housing persuade young people in particular to leave the area.

“The homes in Poundstock Close set an example of the type of quality housing we need in rural communities like ours, designed and priced to be within the grasp of local people.”
