MP visits Davidstow Creamery
The North Cornwall based operation – run by Dairy Crest UK – produces the national brand of cheddar ‘Cathedral City’, as well as ‘Davidstow’. The company’s cheeses have won numerous awards and Cathedral City is the country’s favourite cheese, present in one in three households.
Mr Rogerson had a tour of the creamery and took the opportunity to speak to staff both on the production line and at management level, and discussed their plans to make operations more environmentally friendly over the coming years.
Commenting afterwards he said,
“I’m most grateful to Dairy Crest for inviting me back to the creamery. I’ve been pleased to keep in close touch with the company ever since I was elected, both as local MP and as the Chair of the cross-party parliamentary group on cheese, which I set up in 2006.
“Work at the creamery is incredibly important to the local economy, not just in terms of direct employment but also by sourcing milk from local farmers.
“Though cheese is made here on a very large scale, the people who work here are talented cheese-makers and produce their product to a high standard, and the company’s numerous awards are testament to that.
“I look forward to visiting again soon.”
