Camelford pavement ‘a step up for safety’ – MP
Local MP Dan Rogerson joined residents and campaigners at the new Valley Truckle to Longfield Drive footpath in Camelford this week.
The safety improvement came as a result of pressure from County Councillor Janey Comber, campaigning with Mr Rogerson and local resident Keith Hill. Children began to walk along the street, unprotected from traffic, after the new housing estate opened at Weeks Rise.
Cllr Comber used a special ward fund to pay for some of the project and to get preparatory survey work done at the site. She gained further funding by proving the case for a pavement to senior Council officers. In all £16,000 of Cllr Comber’s divisional highways budget (reserved for projects nominated by members), £20,000 from North Cornwall District Council and £20,000 from the County’s central highways fund was allocated to the safety scheme.
Commenting, local MP Dan Rogerson said:
“Janey, Keith and their supporters have done a brilliant job in getting this work done. It has taken real work and determination to gain the necessary funding from a variety of sources, including Janey’s own divisional highways budget.
“The pavement is a real step up for safety, and could genuinely save lives.
“Congratulations to all involved.”
Camelford and Altarnun County Councillor Janey Comber added:
“I’m delighted to have achieved this much needed facility for Camelford and it shows how much can be achieved by working in partnership.”
