Assembly must top death and delay on A30

The South West Regional Assembly has the opportunity today (Friday) to stop a further ten years of death and delay on the A30 between Temple and Higher Carblake, according to local MP Dan Rogerson.

The three mile stretch of road is a key bottleneck, contributing to some 744,000 hours of delays each year.  Neighbouring villages suffer from rat-running as drivers seek to avoid the traffic, while accidents remain serious and frequent.

Mr Rogerson wrote to members of the Regional Assembly Executive yesterday urging them to retain the Temple to Higher Carblake improvement in their list of possible upgrade works.

Commenting he said:

"We've come a long way since the end of January when the Assembly seemed hell-bent on kicking this scheme back into the long grass.

"We have persuaded them to think again.

"Members must now take that final step and vote to leave Temple to Higher Carblake firmly on the list for improvement.  The Assembly has already committed £30m in funding, and the County Council has promised to fund any overrun if the project costs more than £60m.

"A vote of confidence from the Assembly Executive today will be essential in securing the remaining funding to make this urgently needed improvement a reality."
