MP visits Altarnun school
Children at Altarnun Community Primary School were paid a visit by their local MP, Dan Rogerson last week.
Mr Rogerson took a tour of the school, which educates 59 pupils aged 5-11 from the Five Lanes and Altarnun area. He gave an assembly about his work as an MP and faced tough questions about the fate of village shops and Post Offices, as well as whether he had met the Queen!
Commenting afterwards, Mr Rogerson said:
"Ray Newberry and his colleagues are doing a brilliant job, delivering primary education right at the heart of these two small rural communities.
"The children are enthused by the staff, and already know how to put a politician on the spot!
"It's a very great shame that central Government is putting pressure on schools like Altarnun, by favouring bigger schools that cannot give nearly such close attention to their pupils.
"I will be back to visit Altarnun again, and I keep in touch with the school to support them in any difficulties they have getting the funding and support they need."
