Celebrations as Bryony wins MP Christmas card competition
The winning design depicts Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus on St Piran flag clad surfboards, riding waves in the Newquay sun. Bryony pipped a design of Three Wise Pasties to the post, crafted by ten year old Joseph Ward of Marhamchurch Primary School, who won second prize. Jessica Garner, 4, from Cardinham School takes third prize, and all the children win book tokens.
The local MP sends out about 500 cards each year, with the first prize design on the front and reproductions of the second and third prize designs inside the card. This year local businesses Home Furnishings (Wadebridge), West End Motors (Bodmin) and Phoenix Print (Bodmin) sponsored the competition with adverts on the back of the cards.
Mr Rogerson went to St Columb Major School before the Christmas holiday to present Bryony with a £25 book token and the school with a £50 donation.
Commenting, Dan Rogerson said:
"Bryony's design won the judges over because it meshed Cornwall and Christmas together in brilliant colour.
"We received hundreds of entries, all of impressive quality, from schools all over North Cornwall, so it was a difficult choice, particularly since the Three Wise Pasties were a lovely idea too.
"I'm very grateful to the local businesses who support the competition each year, and I wish everyone an excellent Christmas break and a happy New Year for 2009."
