Post Office closures

Responding to news that the proposals to close Post Offices across North Cornwall will go ahead unchanged, local MP Dan Rogerson said:

"This outcome is an insult to all those who campaigned hard to save their local Post Office.

"We have demonstrated through a tidal wave of submissions to their consultation process, that local branches are needed in the communities they serve.

"This decision will hit the most vulnerable hardest, and put the future of some of our villages in jeopardy.

"It seems the Government is content to let Cornwall become a sort of theme park, where whole communities are subsumed by second homes and from which local people are driven away by a relentless assault on the services they rely on.

"The County Council is right to mount a legal challenge to the criteria on which these closures are based.  That now seems the last ditch hope for stopping this process in its tracks."
