MP supports Bill Bryson ‘Stop the drop’ campaign
Mr Bryson, who is President of the Campaign to Protect Rural England, is running a ‘Stop the Drop’ campaign to raise the profile of litter as a threat to Britain’s countryside. He is asking communities and their Councils to get involved in ‘Big Tidy Up’ campaigns, where people get together to clean up litter in their area.
The local Liberal Democrat MP has written to both North Cornwall District and Restormel Borough Councils to suggest they involve themselves with the campaign.
Commenting, Mr Rogerson said:
“Bill Bryson and the Campaign to Protect Rural England are doing a sterling job in raising awareness of litter and fly-tipping as an ongoing problem all over the country.
“It was a real privilege to meet a man who has travelled the world and knows the unique quality of the British countryside.
“Much of my work is about protecting rural communities in the more general sense, standing up for people when they have housing difficulties, and defending rural services. But we mustn’t forget that the countryside itself is put at risk if it is not looked after, so we must all work together to keep it tidy.”
Bestselling travel and science author, Bill Bryson, added:
“I welcome the support of Dan Rogerson MP for our Stop the Drop campaign. We need the backing of as many MPs as possible to persuade people to stop dropping litter, and to prevail on those with the powers to do so to clean it up.
“Litter is becoming the default condition of the countryside, and it is time that we – all of us – did something about this. The landscape is too lovely to trash.”
