MP helps local turbine groups make their case
Following the meeting, the North Cornwall MP has made a formal request that developers from Community Windpower Ltd, who are proposing new turbines at Davidstow, should have to produce clear evidence of the likely effects their development will have on the area.
The District Council has so far asked only for limited impressions, but Mr Rogerson has demanded that single-frame images, which give the sharpest impression of how a new windfarm will affect the area, are made a requirement of the application process. In a letter to the Council, he says, “I am not seeking to interfere in the determination of individual applications. However, I am very concerned that my constituents who are being asked to comment, whether as local residents or statutory consultees, have the entirety of the evidence before them.”
Commenting after the meeting, Mr Rogerson said:
“There are clear guidelines that developments of this kind should undergo the most rigorous scrutiny.
“People in the surrounding area are naturally concerned at the effect this development might have on their area.
“When councillors are asked to decide, they should do so on the basis of full information as to whether the Community Windfarm Ltd application represents an appropriate way to add more wind power to Cornwall’s energy mix.
“I look forward to the District Council’s response.”
Local councillor, Nathan Bale, who also attended the meeting added:
“It is up to elected members of the District Council to make the final decision on this controversial application.
“It’s only right that local people are allowed to put their case both for and against the development on the strength of comprehensive evidence.
“I favour wind energy in principle, but councillors of all parties have a responsibility to make sure decisions on individual cases are made with the full facts at hand.”
