North Cornwall's MP, Dan Rogerson, this week addressed a combined meeting of three branches of the Business League, which started in the South West.

The local Liberal Democrat MP said Ministers often 'goldplate' EU regulations, making the rules more stringent in BritainEurope. than elsewhere in

Mr Rogerson told members of the Liskeard and Launceston branch, the Newquay branch and the Bodmin branch of the League of the casework he takes on for local businesses, and the importance of dialogue between him and business leaders on legislation as it comes before the House of Commons.

Commenting, afterwards, Mr Rogerson said:

"Members of the Business League are driving forces for our local economy.

"Good regulations keep workers safe and make sure the single market operates properly and fairly across the European Union.

"Yet sometimes Whitehall is inclined to take basic European rules and add British complications.

"That clearly frustrates local business and can, in the worst cases, discourage people from taking on new employees.

"My door is always open to local business people to tell me of the difficulties they face, so I can take their concerns up with Ministers."
