Delight at tax credit turn around
A Delabole couple have received £190 compensation from the Tax Credit Office, following an intervention by North Cornwall’s MP, Dan Rogerson.
Mr and Mrs Redpath-Bergman had been wrongly pursued by the Tax Credit Office for over £1400 in overpayments, but they refused to pay and referred their case to the local MP for a resolution.
Commenting he said:
“I’m delighted that my constituents have finally got the right judgement from the Adjudicator who agreed to look at their case.
“The tax credit system has created a nightmare for many hardworking families around the country, and it’s quite wrong that people should have to go to such lengths to avoid being chased for money they don’t owe.
“We need a root and branch reform of the system so that awards are fixed for period of six months without the unnecessary chopping and changing that throws officials and claimants alike into confusion.
“Meanwhile, where people do experience problems, I’d urge them to get in touch with my office. We can often make a real difference, getting the money people are entitled to.”
