MP to hold public meetings with Post Office Ltd.
Residents across North Cornwall will get their chance to grill Post Office officials on the closure programme this week.
Both Post Office Ltd and Postwatch have undertaken to send representatives to meetings organised by local MP, Dan Rogerson in Bude and Launceston on Wednesday and in Wadebridge on Thursday.
Early indications suggest that one parish alone will send two bus loads of people to a meeting in Bude, to protest at the closure of Whitstone Post Office.
Mr Rogerson has contacted Post Office Ltd in advance of the meetings to express his ‘active’ opposition to the whole closure programme, promising a detailed submission to the consultation once he has heard from local people both in meetings and by letter.
Commenting, he said:
“It’s vital we get a good turnout at the public meetings with Post Office Limited to show them the strength of feeling against these plans.
“They have tried to mute opposition by keeping the full closure programme secret until last week and then scheduling the consultation during the summer months.
“But I am confident people will not let their valued Post Office branches be closed by the back door.
“Officials have confirmed that saving one post office needn’t threaten the future of another so it’s vital our communities come together to support the excellent campaigns which are already running.
“We must keep the pressure on.”
