MP demands safe crossing at Quintrell Downs
Lives are at risk on the A392 through Quintrell Downs, according to local MP Dan Rogerson.
The North Cornwall MP met with Trevor Beard, a resident of Quintrell Gardens, and Colan Parish Council Chairman, Cllr Russell Walkey, this week to observe the difficulties people living on the north side of East Road face getting to local services, like the Post Office, in the village.
Mr Beard said he often had to wait for several minutes at refuges, with petrified parents and children, as lorries thundered past at well over the 30mph speed limit.
Commenting, Dan Rogerson said:
“The north side of the A392 coming in towards Newquay has no pavement, so pedestrians must cross over to get to the nearby roundabout.
“To get to the village centre, they must therefore cross busy roads at least three times.
“While there are dropped kerbs and refuges to provide a designated place to cross, there is no facility for pedestrians to take priority over the speeding traffic and cross safely.
“This is clearly an unacceptable situation, so I’ve asked the County Council to look at the area urgently, and report back.
“A straightforward zebra crossing with belisha beacons would slow traffic down, and could save lives.”
