Lowermoor: Coroner acts on 20 year cover-up

Responding to news that the West Somerset Coroner has called for a police investigation into the almost 20-year long cover-up of vital evidence in the Lowermoor water poisoning incident, Lord Tyler, MP for North Cornwall between 1992 and 2005, said:

"This seems to be a case of ‘better late than never’.

"For nearly two decades Lowermoor water poisoning victims have demanded a real, open investigation into the cover-up which followed the incident.

"After years of dissembling from Conservative and Labour Ministers, it has taken the initiative of a coroner to get answers. I anticipate that the police will want to interview all the politicians involved.”

Dan Rogerson, North Cornwall’s MP since 2005, added:

"I’m delighted that the West Somerset coroner is helping Lowermoor victims take on the establishment.

“The police investigation, for which Mr Rose has called, should be throughgoing and well-resourced.

“I trust the Chief Constable will co-operate fully in disclosing any evidence that is available.

“Anyone who feels they have anything to add to the investigation should write to my office, and I will act as a conduit to the Coroner."
