Driver’s Bank Holiday woe at Temple
North Cornwall’s MP, Dan Rogerson, today (Tuesday) paid tribute to the excellent work of the Temple to Bodmin A30 Action Group for their “sterling efforts” to convince Ministers that the section of Cornwall’s main trunk road should be dualled.
The local Liberal Democrat MP said hundreds of local people and tourists alike had been caught up in jams between Temple and Higher Carblake over the bank holiday weekend.
Mr Rogerson has secured a meeting with Transport Ministers but the Government delayed the encounter with local campaigners after the recent Cabinet reshuffle. It should now take place in the Autumn.
Commenting, Mr Rogerson said:
“Our successful campaign for the Bodmin to Indian Queens section of the A30 to be widened has clearly paid off, with journey times significantly reduced there. Of course, I’ve been in Newquay a great deal recently and the widened section makes a real difference.
“How absurd, though, that Ministers should allow the bottleneck to move up to Temple. If only some of them had been stuck in jams there over the bank holiday, perhaps they’d take a different view. The Roads Minister, Rosie Winterton, might do well to book a couple of hours out of her day to travel the three miles of that section during peak time and see if she can really say that the improvement is unnecessary.
“It was the Regional Assembly which initially shelved vital plans for the section at Temple to be widened. Now the Assembly is to be abolished, Ministers should move quickly to overturn their short-sighted decision.”
Note to Editors:
Mr Rogerson met with the A30 Action Group for the third time this year last week.
