MP praises young safety campaigner

North Cornwall’s MP, Dan Rogerson, visited ten-year old Rachael Madden in her Bodmin home on Thursday evening, following Cornish Guardian reports of her campaign to make the railway bridge outside her house safe.

The Liberal Democrat MP and local County Councillor, Steve Rogerson, called in on Miss Madden after the St Petroc’s School pupil wrote to the Town Council asking that the bridge over the railway line be made one-way, to make it safer for local children to cross.

Mr Rogerson has promised Rachael that he will take the issue up with Cornwall County Council. He wrote today (Friday) to the Director of Planning, Transportation and Estates at County Hall, Richard Fish.

Commenting, Mr Rogerson said:

“I’m very impressed with Rachael’s letter and the initiative she has shown in writing it.

“This is clearly a serious problem for young people and other residents crossing the road in this area.

“I’m asking the County to look at this swiftly and I’ll keep Rachael and others informed.”
