‘Strong support’ for hardworking Councillors and Candidates – MP

North Cornwall’s MP, Dan Rogerson, today hailed the strong support shown for hardworking District Councillors and candidates in last Thursday’s local elections.  Liberal Democrat support had increased from the time of the last District elections, he said.

The local Liberal Democrat Group at North Cornwall District Council sees several new additions to the team and saw established councillors make significant increases in their majorities.

Conservative candidates failed to make any sizeable breakthrough and the local MP says the ‘Cameron effect’ has not fooled voters in North Cornwall.

Commenting, Mr Rogerson said:

“The results – particularly in seats where we were the incumbent – reflect the very hard work put in by our local councillors on behalf of people in their areas.

“There is a great mixture of experience and new-blood in the new North Cornwall District group and I look forward to working with all of them in the interests of local people.

“In the Newquay area we increased our representation from two to three borough councillors, despite talk of a Conservative resurgence.

“When given a choice between David Cameron’s gloss and the commitment of their local Liberal Democrat Councillors, people here resoundingly choose the latter.”
