St Merryn message ‘Loud and Clear’ – MP
North Cornwall’s MP, Dan Rogerson yesterday (Wednesday) addressed a meeting of St Merryn residents, organised by Caroline Williams of the Trevithick Estate. Mrs Williams contacted the local MP to tell him how many people in the area were concerned that local young families couldn’t find homes to rent and what a destructive effect the problem was having on their community.
Dan Rogerson suggested that she organise a meeting in the Parish Hall, so that he could come and talk to people about what he’s been doing to press for more social housing and to tackle the proliferation of second homes.
The meeting was well attended with some fifty people coming to hear what the local Liberal Democrat MP had to say, and to put their questions to Stuart Blackie, North Cornwall District Council’s Head of Housing.
Commenting after the meeting, Mr Rogerson said:
“Two messages came across loud and clear from the people here in St Merryn.
“They want to know when there will be provision made for new affordable housing in the village and they also want to see more emphasis on local connections when allocating the existing properties.
“I will be passing on their petition and their views to the Chairman of the relevant committee of at North Cornwall District Council.
“It’s high time that national and regional authorities took this problem seriously. I will be continuing my fight for greater recognition from them of the acute housing need in North Cornwall.”
