“Huge Impact” of work at Camelford Primary

North Cornwall’s MP, Dan Rogerson, visited Camelford Primary School last Friday to hear about the work pupils there have been doing with the Creative Partnership scheme.

Local children have written a book, Gorran:  The Tale of the Tamar Stone, with the help of author, James Tonks, which they presented to the local MP, as well as unveiling a giant sculpture of the Giant, Gorran, which they had helped to craft.

Other pupils have been working on a garden project, on which they are growing their own vegetables, ready for sale to the local community.  They are working with schools in Africa on the Gardens for Life scheme, which will help families there to grow food for themselves.

Speaking after the visit, Mr Rogerson commented:

“These schemes are having a huge impact both here in North Cornwall and on those in the developing world.

“The children have had practical experience of starting and running a business and been able to explore and extend their creative skills.

“The content and tone of the book the children wrote is of remarkable quality and I was astounded at their imposing sculpture of Gorran.

“In all, I went away from Camelford Primary greatly heartened at the work the school is doing and impressed at the professionalism and skill with which the staff there are delivering this important addition to the regular curriculum.”
