Recycling workers tackling threat posed by climate change

North Cornwall’s MP, Dan Rogerson, this morning (Monday) visited the Bodmin Recycling Centre to thank staff for their hard work over the Christmas and New Year period.

The local MP met the team who’ve been collecting North Cornwall’s share of the UK’s half million Christmas trees.  The Bodmin Centre deals all year round with glass, aluminium and steel cans, paper and card, plastic bottles, and textiles.

Liberal Democrats on North Cornwall District Council support the authority’s existing recycling scheme but are promising to expand and develop it if they win control at the May elections this year.

Commenting, Dan Rogerson said:

“It was great to meet the Christmas tree team this morning.  It was impossible to see them all but I want to thank every refuse and recycling worker in North Cornwall for the extra work they have put in to clear up after our festivities.

“The work of the recycling centre is a vital part of our armoury against the threat climate change poses on the ground in North Cornwall.  The more everyone can do their bit to recycle glass, and plastic bottles and cans, the less energy is used in making new material.  Recycling our paper slows deforestation, leaving trees to absorb the carbon dioxide which is warming up our planet.

“Liberal Democrats have positive plans to expand this scheme to make it easier everyone to recycle.  A Liberal Democrat vote in May will be a vote to see collections moved to the same day as rubbish collections – so no one need forget to put out their recyclable material.  And we plan to roll out a new service to local small businesses too.”
