Sergeant Roberts Coroner demands evidence from Hoon
North Cornwall’s former MP, Paul (now Lord) Tyler today (Thursday) said that the Oxfordshire Coroner who has demanded evidence from former Defence Secretary, Geoff Hoon, might finally gain answers on the Government’s failure to provide suitable and sufficient equipment for troops at war in Iraq.
Commenting Lord Tyler said:
“I’m delighted that the Coroner is prepared to insist on evidence from the Government in relation to the unnecessary death of Sergeant Roberts.
“It’s a sad fact that Parliament has failed to get an adequate explanation of the equipment failures in the early days of the Iraq invasion. It’s now nearly two years since I took Sergeant Roberts’ widow, and other members of his family, to see Geoff Hoon.
“He promised then that there would be an independent investigation into the mismanagement of vital equipment supplies.
“Now, at last, the family may get the answers we’ve all been demanding.”
Paul Tyler’s successor as MP for North Cornwall, Dan Rogerson, will ask questions in the House of Commons, demanding that Geoff Hoon’s evidence be made available to MPs.
