MP urges Liberal lunch to “Fill in the gaps”
PRESS RELEASE FROM DAN ROGERSON MP
Liberal Democrats in North Cornwall were joined this weekend by visiting MP, Mark Williams for a well-attended Christmas lunch in Bedruthan Steps Hotel at Mawgan Porth.
Mr Williams once lived at Perranporth, when he was a teacher in Cornwall, and was elected in 2005 to represent the area where he and the local MP, Dan Rogerson, went to University, in Aberystwyth. He now speaks for the Liberal Democrats on Welsh Affairs and, as a passionate advocate for rural areas, told the assembled Liberal Democrat group that theirs was the only party which could tackle growing inequalities in Cornwall.
Speaking after the meeting, Mark Williams MP said:
“It’s been great to meet so many people continuing a strong Liberal tradition here in Cornwall. Just as in West Wales, people here know that it is liberals who have stood up for rural communities.
“As David Cameron has abandoned areas like ours for the Notting Hill set, we know that the Tories have never really been there to help.
“Our MPs now represent Lands End and John O’Groats. Liberal Democrats across the country should be determined to fill in the gaps.”
Local MP, Dan Rogerson added:
“Mark was very well received here – it’s been great to have him back in Cornwall.
“Together with our MP colleagues from rural constituencies across Britain, we will continue to campaign for affordable housing, for better rural transport services and for a fair deal on health service funding.
“Liberal Democrats from all over Cornwall go away from today’s lunch knowing that it is up to them to make sure we do well in the coming local elections, so that we can make the best case for our area at every level of government.”
Note to Editors: Mark Williams MP attended the lunch with his wife, Helen, and one-year old twins, Oliver and Eliza.
