Conservative poisoning cover-up

North Cornwall’s former MP, Paul (now Lord) Tyler today (Monday) said that former Conservative Minister, Michael Howard should explain revelations in today's Western Morning News about the Lowermoor water poisoning incident in 1988.

Commenting, Lord Tyler said:

"Today's revelations, gained using the Freedom of Information legislation, demonstrate that the Conservative Government deliberately misled people in North Cornwall about events at Lowermoor.

"If they had been honest and open at the time, and warned all the residents in the area affected, a great deal of ill health and alarm would have been avoided.

"Ministers were trying to cover up the severity of the poisoning to avoid their privatisation plan going sour.

"Since Michael Howard was the Minister responsible at the time, he has some explaining to do."

North Cornwall's present MP, Dan Rogerson, will lay questions in the House of Commons today, to probe further into the cover-up.

Commenting, Mr Rogerson added:

"This disgraceful cover-up is as relevant today as it was eighteen years ago.  With so many still suffering the ill-effects of aluminium poisoning, neither Paul Tyler nor I will let this rest."
