Rain fails to dampen support for ‘Green Tax Switch’
North Cornwall MP Dan Rogerson and his Liberal Democrat team distributed 1500 flyers in Wadebridge, Bodmin, Launceston and Bude this weekend as rain failed to dampen support for the 'Green Tax Switch'.
The local MP explained how the move from taxes on income to taxes on pollution could save the average family £1500, and told constituents of the special exemptions and reductions on Vehicle Excise Duty that his party planned for rural drivers.
Mr Rogerson and his team also got considerable support for a petition against abolishing the Post Office Card Account.
Commenting after the weekend action, Mr Rogerson said:
"It's been a great pleasure to meet so many constituents today, despite the rain.
"There's huge support for the idea that a greener lifestyle should mean the Government takes less from your pockets – and real resistance to Ministers' smash and grab raid on rural services, like the Post Office Card Account.
"Liberal Democrat plans would mean a cut in the basic rate of income tax, and raise the threshold at which you pay the higher rate. We'd lift two million people out of income tax altogether.
"Meanwhile the Conservatives offer another round of tax cuts with no indication whatever of how they'd fund them. Which local services would they axe?
"Only green taxes can offer people real choice about how much of their own money they keep. A greener lifestyle is a cheaper lifestyle."
