MP demands answers on Launceston Post Office
Launceston residents and businesses found themselves faced with a hike this week when their local Post Office closed without warning.
Post Office Ltd, which is responsible for managing the network today (Friday) told North Cornwall MP, Dan Rogerson, it had no idea why the local branch had closed.
Commenting, Mr Rogerson said:
"Bad enough that the Government lets so many planned Post Office closures go ahead. Worse still that local branches are now allowed to close without notice.
"It's simply unacceptable that even Post Office Headquarters can't tell me why elderly people collecting their pensions are now expected to traipse all the way down the hill to Newport.
"Launceston businesses, too, rely on a proper counter service in the town to keep up communication with their clients and suppliers.
"Once again, it seems a Cornish community is being swept aside in an effort to balance the books."
Dan Rogerson has written to Alan Cook CBE, Managing Director of Post Office Ltd, calling for the branch to be re-opened immediately.
