People power saves Bothwick tip
In a significant victory for the people of Tintagel and surrounding areas, Cornwall County Council have agreed to keep the Tintagel Household Waste and Recycling Centre open for at least another year in its current form. They further agreed to consult with local people on the options for the facility following that 12 month evaluation period.
The meeting last night at the Camelford Liberal Club, organised by the local MP Dan Rogerson, was packed as more than 150 people turned out to voice their support for the tip and show their concerns at the rumours that the council proposed to close it.
Celebrating, Dan Rogerson said:
"This is a great result for the people of North Cornwall. It also shows how well local councillors and residents can work together on issues that concern people. The more rural parts of the county deserve these services just as much as the larger towns."
"It was really encouraging to see so many people at the meeting, and I was delighted that in organising it I was able to bring people together to achieve a solution which wil reassure residents."
Notes to editors:
Councillor Adam Paynter (Executive member for the Environment and Heritage) spoke on plans to update the facility at Tintagel and took many questions from concerned residents.
The meeting was arranged by Dan Rogerson MP following letters on the future of the site from constituents
