Rogerson calls on Rural Housing Commission to visit Cornwall

Dan Rogerson has called on the government's Rural Housing Commission to come to Cornwall to hear evidence on the plight of local people.

He said, "The housing situation in Cornwall is reaching crisis point. Not only is it now impossible for many young families to buy their first home, it is now extremely difficult for them to find somewhere affordable to rent. I'm glad that the government has set up this commission to look at housing needs in rural areas, but we have to ensure that the Commission gets as much information as possible about how serious the situation is in Cornwall."

The Rural Housing Commission is being chaired by Channel 4's Elinor Goodman and is due to report its findings in April of next year. Mr Rogerson gave evidence to the commission last week and impressed upon them that action is vital both in terms of providing more affordable housing and also in tackling the second homes problem.

Mr Rogerson added "When the commission reports its findings next year I hope to see them urging the Government for changes which will help deal with the housing problem. Then it will be up to the government to deliver."
