Boscastle’s “Great Progress” – Rogerson
Dan Rogerson, Member of Parliament for North Cornwall today (Tuesday) spoke of his optimism at the 'great progress' that had been made in Boscastle since the village was devastated by floods a year ago.
Commenting Mr Rogerson said:
"Of course, it is not just bricks and mortar that have had to be reconstructed. It is lives and livelihoods too."
"The community has really come together to support those whose businesses and homes were so badly affected. That Boscastle has come so far in such a short space of time is remarkable and this is reflected in the hugely positive atmosphere in the village."
2Despite the very considerable progress that has been made, I am still dealing with a number of cases where there are problems with insurance claims. On the whole, British insurers have been helpful but we have sometimes had to push for action and those insured with companies based overseas have faced real difficulties in getting their costs met."
"I am working with the government to have the outstanding problems resolved and to ensure that the floods last year do not taint Boscastle in insurance and planning terms as a long-term flood risk, as we all know what happened there was a freak occurrence."
"Today, we must look ahead optimistically from a year wrought with turmoil for so many and hope that the village can now substantially move on. We should remember, too, our relief last year that ? despite the material ruin ? miraculously there was no loss of life. We have the great work of our emergency services to thank for that and we should acknowledge their efforts again."
