Dan Rogerson MP for North Cornwall

The South West Team of Liberal Democrat MPs for Devon and Cornwall this week supported the Cornwall Sustainable Energy Partnership (CSEP) in their endeavours to promote energy conservation and new technologies for generating green energy.

The group of MPs met Tim German, Manager of the Partnership, to discuss the way forward for the region?s energy production. The Partnership is a leader in its field, creating, assisting and delivering projects that utilise energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies to address the energy needs of communities and businesses.

Following the meeting, the Chair of the South West Lib Dem group and MP for North Cornwall, Dan Rogerson, said "The CSEP are doing great work for our area but they need government support. We need to develop renewable energy to tackle climate change. If we don?t, then the spectre of nuclear power looms large on the horizon. I know that if I had the choice of a nuclear power station or a wave power energy scheme in Cornwall, I?d choose wave power over reactors every time."

Nick Harvey, MP for North Devon said, "Energy touches every area of our lives. Climate change affects every part of the world. The government must act now to give organisations like the CSEP the power to bring sustainable energy solutions to the communities they know best. The CSEP has acted as a model for Devon; now Ministers should make a concerted effort to see that similar bodies are able to deliver similar successes across the country."

Torbay MP, Adrian Sanders added, "With the right help, Sustainable Energy Partnerships can help us slow climate change, reduce fuel bills and dash finally from the horizon the horrific prospect of a new nuclear power station on our doorstep."
