Rogerson welcomes back Tyler as partner in parliament
Dan Rogerson, returning to Westminster after his first weekend carrying out constituency duties as the new Member of Parliament for North Cornwall has joined praise for his predecessor, Paul Tyler, in welcoming his elevation to the peerage.
Commenting, Dan Rogerson said:
"Paul was an excellent parliamentarian in the Commons and will certainly be a leading light in the Lords.
"As a leading proponent for reform of the Second Chamber, I?m sure Paul will maintain his campaign to make the Lords ?more democratic and representative? from within. Labour has committed itself to a free vote on Lords reform in their most recent manifesto: Paul will be key in the fight to make sure that this time 'just for once' they keep their promise.
"I'm delighted that Paul?s parliamentary work to bring justice for the victims of Gulf War Syndrome, and others exposed to organophosphate poisoning can now continue.
"Perhaps most important of all is that we now have another strong and established voice for Cornwall in Parliament. I know, for example, that Paul and I can now work together in our ongoing campaign to get the truth for victims of the Lowermoor water scandal.
"Never has a Life Peerage been more deserved, even if Paul and I both disagree with the manner in which membership of the Lords is handed out.
"The whole team of five Liberal Democrat MPs in Cornwall will look forward to working with Paul Tyler as his Commons partners in Parliament."
