RAF St. Mawgan answers ‘Right away’ says new MP
The newly elected Member of Parliament for North Cornwall, Dan Rogerson, has today picked up his predecessor Paul Tyler's longstanding campaign for a meeting with Defence and Transport Ministers about the future of RAF St. Mawgan.
Dan Rogerson has written to Adam Ingram, Minister of State for the Armed Forces, to ask him to meet Cornwall?s five Liberal Democrat MPs with Ministers from the Department of Transport and representatives of Cornwall County Council.
In his letter, Mr Rogerson told the Minister, "RAF St. Mawgan is unique, in that its military and civilian uses are instrinsically linked. Any change to the former is likely to have a dramatic effect on the viability of the latter, and, in consequence, on a large number of my constituents."
Commenting, Dan Rogerson said,
"It is vital we get Ministers to understand the exceptional nature of RAF St. Mawgan. We know from the cavalier way in which the Government released details of these changes in March that they cannot have a proper grasp of the importance of the airport to Cornwall and the wider region.
"What has been clearly lacking in recent months is joined-up government. Clearly this cuts across departments so it is now critical that we meet with Ministers from both Defence and Transport.
"We need answers and action right away. I look forward to the Minister's response."
